Value Manager: a new professional role with the PolisMaker Master
UNI 11915:2023 on the Value Manager is now available, defining requirements and competencies for a key role in infrastructure and urban regeneration projects.
The publication of UNI 11915:2023 (“Value Chain Manager – Value Manager”) is an important milestone for professionals working in urban transformation, infrastructure and complex programmes, where decisions must be well-grounded, verifiable and performance-oriented across the whole lifecycle.
In a rapidly evolving scenario — with complex investments, sustainability goals and increasingly demanding procedural constraints — there is a growing need for profiles able to integrate technical, economic and social dimensions, translating needs and objectives into measurable requirements and coherent choices.
The standard introduces and describes the Value Manager: a multidisciplinary professional who supports the optimisation of choices across the different phases, from setting objectives and requirements to technical-economic feasibility, and through delivery and long-term management.
A distinctive aspect of UNI 11915:2023 is its focus on performance evaluation and costs over time, with specific attention to operations and maintenance costs and, more broadly, to a lifecycle reading of works and investments.
The standard was promoted by AIAV (Italian Association for Value Management and Analysis) and developed by Angelo Caruso di Spaccaforno, Giampiero Bambagioni and Andrea Galli, reference lecturers with multidisciplinary expertise within the PolisMaker Master framework at Politecnico di Milano. In this sense, the topic is fully consistent with the PolisMaker Masters, which educate professionals able to combine technical rigour, strategy and sustainability.
