Maggioli publications: three volumes from the “Il Polis Maker” editorial project
Three Maggioli volumes (Politecnica series) on method, experiences, and the shift from the economy of building to the economy of living, within the PolisMaker framework.
On April 9, 2021, three volumes published by Maggioli Editore (Politecnica series) were presented within the editorial project “Il Polis Maker per la qualità del vivere e lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile”. The books collect methods, contributions and experiences developed over time within the PolisMaker cultural framework, with a specific focus on how decisions are assessed in urban and territorial transformation processes.
The three volumes are:
1) “Polis Maker per la qualità del vivere e lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile. Contributi metodologici in ottica di interdisciplinarità”
This volume focuses on methodological references and tools through which different disciplines converge into a holistic understanding of urban processes and decision-making: a framework of methods and categories that helps integrate perspectives.
2) “Polis Maker per la qualità del vivere e lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile. Esperienze in ottica di interdisciplinarità”
This volume collects applied cases and experiences (research and professional) showing how interdisciplinarity can become operational practice: projects, contexts and applications connected to quality of living.
3) “Polis Maker per la qualità del vivere e lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile. Dall’Economia del Costruire all’Economia dell’Abitare”
This volume explores the shift from a building-centred perspective to a living-centred one, emphasising human centrality and both material and immaterial needs: a lens that also informs evaluation and design choices.
The volumes were conceived on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Master “Il Polis Maker per la qualità del vivere e lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile”, promoted by Politecnico di Milano, with the aim of collecting contributions and practices developed over time by lecturers and alumni, coherently with the programme’s cultural framework.
The term “Polis Maker” dates back to the late 1990s and to a long maturation of holistic thinking aimed at interpreting urban transformation processes. The neologism is linked to an interdisciplinary discussion group involving diverse professional backgrounds (psychiatry, theology, construction economics, interior design, urban planning, law, communication and project management).
